Feigenbaum Center for Science and Innovation

The Feigenbaum Center for Science and Innovation, or CSI, as many students know it, is the cornerstone of scientific study for the College. The building has been awarded a  Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The Feigenbaum Center for Science and Innovation was designed by EYP Architecture and Engineering and built by Columbia Construction Company in 2013. The project was completed in October of that year, and on October 14th there was an opening ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building. The name for the building was announced at the opening ceremony and is named after the Feigenbaum Foundation, which donated 5 million dollars to the project.  The project totaled 30-40 million dollars and is about 66,000 square feet. The building is home to many classes and has impressive laboratories for science and other courses. There is a computer lab with 3D printing equipment, many study areas, an open three-story atrium at the entrance of the building, and even the largest lecture hall on campus, as well as a 72-person lecture hall. The building has many teachers' offices and a math tutoring lab. The building has been home to various students' activities, from a movie night in the atrium to open houses for new and prospective students. The CSI building was designed with energy efficiency as a priority with solar panels on the roof and a wind turbine. There is also greenery, from an outdoor classroom to a garden on the roof. The building is designed to be as efficient as possible, just like the resources used to create the building. The terracotta exterior is 30mm thick, which gives it a brown color from the terracotta. They also use efficient reflectors for hearing, such as the aluminum and zinc compounds on the Science Center's walls. The Science Center was the first new building to be built for MCLA since the 1970s. The Science Center has built up a reputation as a prominent place to learn and grow with the state-of-the-art equipment and labs inside the building. With the great faculty of MCLA, the science center will remain a significant place to learn in the STEM fields and prove to be a vital resource for the MCLA students and community.
